Microbrew hate from Macro lovers?
Let me start by saying that I fit into the "beer snob" category. I enjoy porters and imperial stouts, Belgian strong ales and barley wines. I might spend $10-25 on a single bottle. Hell, I've even got a lengthy beer journal. But, I don't see a single reason not to enjoy something like a cheap Budweiser with my friends, or by myself after a long day at work. You can't always afford to drink the expensive microbrews, and frankly some of the mass produced ones aren't that bad. I feel like there's a time and a place for each.
However, I think everyone has to admit that the quality of the mass produced beers is not up to par with the micros. MGD64 for example is not beer. It's beer flavored water. Same goes for Coors or Keystone, or many of the other varieties that are heavy on the rice, and low on hops and flavor. Compare a simple rice and malt formula, with one that has toffee, vanilla, cocoa nibs, and espresso with three kinds of hops and aged with oak wood chips. I even know some brewers who toss in a whole chocolate cake, or a pizza with all the toppings into their mix! There's simply no contest, and although not everyone will like the taste of these complex beers, the quality and personal care is indisputable.
So why do I see so many people in beer questions on Yahoo saying things like "don't trust the microbreweries", "they're still learning the art of brewing", or "they're piss water"? I know that people from the macrobreweries spam the rating boards on Ratebeer and Beer Advocate. Are they doing the same on Yahoo every time they bash the microbrews as one single category and praise Coors, Miller, and the rest of the macros, or do some people genuinely think that ALL microbrews are pure garbage?

What more can be said that has not so eloquently been addressed by the above answers? Oh yeah, told you so.
I have been speaking and writing my heart on trying to educate people on this and another site of the virtues of all beer. As far as the National/Mega/Industrial or whatever the title the quality of beer should never be in question. It is only a matter of taste. Don’t like then don’t drink it. I have beers in several nations including Germany that were absolutely horrible yet popular in their nations. Not all beer will appeal to all people. I must laugh AT anyone who considers a beer such as Budweiser up to par with a craft beer. Perhaps it is better to say that the opposite is true. Chocolate cake? Pizza? Really, what are people thinking? I do wonder however, what chemical analysis would provide with cross comparative runs on plasma GC and HPLC of these beers.
Thank you to those that have a fair and balanced approach to beer analysis and appreciation. It is nice to know that you are indeed aboard this “craft” as we sail through the storm of beer wars.
